The most common questions we receive about Back Pain are:
“Why Is This Happening To Me?” & “Why Am I Still Suffering With Back Pain After Putting Up With It For 6 Months Or More”
Back pain and stiffness is one of the most common injuries that people in there 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and beyond suffer with. It’s not uncommon for people to think “ If I ignore this it will go away on it’s own”. Very often it will be a funny nights sleep, an awkward lift or simply by doing a little too much in the garden. Maybe you thought that the stiffness you are experiencing is just one of those things that you need to accept due to your age. Maybe you have done nothing (that you can recall)…but it’s just not getting any better.
Most people with lower back pain, stiffness and sciatica will hope that it will just go away on it’s own. Generally 6 months down the line back pain become part of the daily routine and people very often “just live with it”. You find yourself having to second guess everything and stop or alter doing the things that you once loved to do due to the risk of your back “going again”
Does That Sound Like You?
If any of this resonates with you..you’re not alone- we hear and see this type of issue ALL the time. In fact, Sciatica, Lower Back Pain and Stiffness are THE most common problems that we see in our Physio Clinic in Stoke on Trent.
If Your Currently Living With Back Pain or Sciatica, Here Are Seven Reasons That It May Be Lasting Longer Than It Should
1. You didn’t think it would actually take this long to go.
2. You went to your GP who told you to rest, take some tablets – but the pills did little to help your back, and as soon as they wore off your Back Pain flared up again!
3. Someone you know told you that “it’s just part of getting older”.
4. You tried other Healthcare Professionals, or a Physiotherapist in the past, but it just didn’t seem to make a difference.
5. You searched the Internet, watched some exercises videos or got ideas that promised immediate relief but they either didn’t do a thing, or even made your Back pain worse.
6. You thought it would be a good idea to “rest and wait it out” but that just made things stiffer and the pain worse.
7. You decided to get a few “massages” hoping that would fix your back, but all they did was feel nice and relaxing in the moment, and didn’t do anything to fix it long term…

“What Can I Do Today To Help My Back Pain or Sciatica Today?”
1. It’s time to make the conscious decision to make your life better and seek help. Making decisive actions have a knock on effect to our mental well-being and well help you feel more in control of your life and your future. Make the decision today to starting taking steps in the right direction towards a life without Back Pain.
2. Exercise is great, but are you doing the right exercises? This is not something that can be taught through a sheet of paper, and any Health Professional worth their salt would not give you such false hope. Only by attending appointments with a qualified, skilled and experienced Physiotherapist who can demonstrate and help you learn the exercises in a controlled, supported and safe environment will you gain any benefit.
3. Avoid sitting and long periods of rest! Ever tried to get up from the couch after resting for a while? Do you struggle because your back feels so painful and tight? That’s because one of the worst things you can do for back pain is rest or sit for long periods of time. Too much rest makes your back stiff and tight. It would really help if you were given appropriate strengthening exercises for better posture, alongside hands-on treatment, to get you active and healthy as quickly as possible.
4. Get proper “hands-on” Physiotherapy! At the end of the day, all of the above will help you feel better, and will help you reduce pain, but very often it will keep coming back again and again. Only by committing to attend Physiotherapy sessions will you actually experience any long lasting results. If your back pain is impacting your way of life, you job, your social life and ultimately – your happiness – it’s time to take action.
